Want to know how I consistently attract high-paying clients without sending cold emails?

August 11, 2024

This is only something you should read about if you want to create a business that grows in direct proportion to how much you grow as a human being.

If that sounds “too hard” for you, well you’re shit out of luck on this weekly newsletter.

I’d like to introduce you to a selling system that has allowed me to consistently make $20,000 to $50,000 a month depending on how hard I wanted to work.

In its simplest form, here’s how it works:

  1. We build a network
  2. We provide value to the network
  3. We actively sell to the network

Now that’s obviously an over simplistic way to think about this, here’s a bit more nuance:

  1. Find people who are already crushing it in your space. Look for creators, entrepreneurs, or businesses that are doing exceptionally well and that you genuinely admire.
  2. Make a sincere effort to connect with them. This can be as simple as commenting on their posts, sharing their content, or buying their products. The key is to be authentic and provide real value.
  3. If you think you can help them, don't be afraid to offer your services upfront, even if it's for free. This is a great way to get your foot in the door and demonstrate your skills.
  4. Focus on leaving the right impression. Be professional, reliable, and go above and beyond in your work. You never know who's looking to hire or scale their business.

Rinse and repeat 1-4 a few hundred times and boom you will never have to send a cold email EVER AGAIN.

The beauty of this approach is that it is something that creates LONG TERM GROWTH in your income not just quick little spurts of growth that your normally experience with cold outreach.

And here's the thing - this strategy works no matter what stage you're at in your career.

When I was first starting out, I used this approach to land my first few clients. I found businesses I admired, I reached out with specific ideas on how I could help them, and I offered to do a small project for free to prove myself.

As I grew in my career, I continued to use this strategy, but in a slightly different way. I started attending high-level masterminds and events where I focused on connecting with other experts in the room, offering my insights, and assistance where I could.

And now, even though I've reached a point where people often seek me out for my expertise, I still make it a point to connect with and learn from other top performers in my field.

(For example, literally two hours ago, I paid John Romanello (who inspried this newsletter) to review and edit some of my copy, not because I couldn't do it myself, but because I value his perspective and wanted to keep sharpening my skills.)

So no matter where you're at in your journey, this strategy of focusing on genuine relationships and providing real value…

It works.

Now yes, in order to build a network you have to be willing to put yourself out there, to be generous with your time and expertise, and to focus on giving before you get.

And really, anyone can do this.

Some people will say, “Well I’m an introvert, that won’t work for me and my business!”

But here's the thing - being an introvert doesn't mean you can't build a powerful network. Some of the most successful people I know are introverts who have mastered the art of social selling.

Because at its core, social selling isn't about being the loudest person in the room or the most charismatic networker. It's about being strategic, authentic, and consistently providing value.

As an introvert, you have unique strengths that can actually give you an advantage in building relationships. You're likely a great listener, a deep thinker, and someone who values genuine connection over superficial schmoozing.

The key is to leverage those strengths and find ways to connect that feel authentic to you.

Maybe that means reaching out to people one-on-one with a thoughtful message, rather than trying to work the room at a big event. Maybe it means creating content that showcases your expertise and invites people to reach out to you. Maybe it means being selective about the events you attend and the relationships you pursue, focusing on quality over quantity.

The point is, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to social selling. The beauty of this strategy is that you can tailor it to your own personality, strengths, and goals.

And when you do that - when you build a network in a way that feels aligned with who you are and what you value - something incredible happens.

You start to attract not just more clients, but the right clients. People who appreciate your unique perspective, who value your contributions, and who are excited to work with you long-term.

You start to build not just a network, but a community. A group of people who support each other, refer business to each other, and help each other grow.

And that's when the real magic happens.

So here’s a secret for you:

This whole "networking" game is pay-to-play.

When you invest your time, your energy, and yes, sometimes your money, into building relationships and expanding your network…

You yield MASSIVE RESULTS.

Here's how it works:

  1. Every person you connect with has their own unique network - a web of relationships they've built over years, even decades. These networks often include people at all levels of an industry hierarchy, from entry-level employees to the biggest players in the game.
  2. When you build a genuine relationship with someone, you're not just getting access to their knowledge and expertise. You're also getting a potential introduction to everyone they know.
  3. While a cold email might get you a one-off client or a polite rejection, an introduction from a trusted contact can open doors that would otherwise be sealed shut. It's the difference between knocking on the front door and being personally escorted into the VIP lounge.

But here's the thing - these introductions don't just happen by chance. They're the result of the reputation you've built, the value you've provided, and the relationships you've nurtured.

In other words, they're the result of your social selling skills.

When you master the art of social selling, you're not just building a network - you're building a web of opportunities. Every relationship becomes a potential gateway to new connections, new clients, and new levels of success.

But as you mentioned, this isn't a skill you can just pick up overnight. It's not a simple system or a quick hack.

It's a lifelong commitment to putting yourself out there, to providing value, and to building authentic relationships.

It's about showing up consistently, even when it's uncomfortable. It's about being generous with your time and expertise, even when there's no immediate payoff. It's about playing the long game and investing in your future success.

In many ways, it's like going to the gym. It's not easy, especially at first. It takes discipline, effort, and a willingness to push through discomfort. But just like working out, the more you do it, the stronger you get. And over time, you start to see results that you never could have achieved with a quick fix or a shortcut.

When you commit to developing your social selling skills, you're not just building your network - you're building your most valuable asset.

You're creating a foundation of relationships and opportunities that will support you throughout your entire career so you don't need to blast people with cold DMs and emails.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t still do cold outbound, it works great, all I’m saying is you should not be dependent on it.

Look, the ability to build genuine relationships and leverage the power of introductions is what will get you your best clients - end of story.

So if you're ready to take your success to the next level, if you're ready to tap into the power of the network effect and create quantum leaps in your growth, then it's time to start developing your social selling skills.

It won't be easy. It will take time, effort, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. But I promise you, it will be worth it.

Because when you master the art of building relationships and leveraging introductions, you open up a world of possibilities that most people never even dream of...

  • You become the kind of person who doesn't just wait for opportunities to come to them, you create your own opportunities, every single day.
  • You become the kind of person who doesn't just follow the crowd - you lead the way and set the standard for what's possible.
  • You become the kind of person who doesn't just dream of success - you embody it, in every interaction, every relationship, every opportunity.

And that, my friends, is the true power of social selling.
